About our Project
In early 2022, New Dawn Enterprises was granted the Community-Based Tenant Initiative Fund (CBTIF) from the Community Housing Transformation Centre. The CBTIF contributes to the process of turning tenants from customers or service recipients into active participants in the housing world. With this fund, New Dawn created the Tenant Education, Empowerment and Advocacy Project.
Our Project’s Goals:
- Build a culture of tenant knowledge, empowerment, organizing, and advocacy for tenants in the CBRM
- Provide tenants with resources to access in case of the need for assistance (legal information, legal aid, CBRM Tenants’ Handbook and more)
- Create and distribute written materials about rental housing laws, tenants’ rights and responsibilities, landlord responsibilities, the tenancy board, and more
- Lay the foundation for a grassroots Tenants’ Advocacy Association in the CBRM
Stay tuned as this website develops with the addition of resources and updates on the project!
